Sometimes God allows us to get to the place where we realize that He is all we have. When we get to the place where we realize He is all we have, we realize that He is all we really need.
This past week has been filled with hard things. Things that this side of heaven seem to make no sense. Young lives have been taken from two families within our church family. There have been two others that I learned of who have suffered from unexpected strokes. There has been loss of loved ones who have been fighting for their lives. Two other families I became aware of had significant damage done to their homes by water/flooding issues. Families have been separated and split by divorce.
Where is God? Why is He not doing something when we know that He could?
I will not try to explain what I cannot understand. I will say that God has not abandoned His people. He will not abandon us. His character has not changed. He is still loving. He is still faithful. He is still holy and good.
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil for you are with me.” (Psalm 23:4) He is with us. Even in the darkest days in our lives. He is with us.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the LORD. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
We don’t understand because we are not yet capable of seeing. Of knowing. But one day we will find ourselves in the presence of the Master. No longer will we be in the presence of sin, and sinful people. We will be in the surrounded by holiness.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:4)
“Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless… Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.” (1 Corinthians 12:9-10, 12)
Someday we will see. Someday it will be made clear. In the meantime, may we never lose sight of the depths of God’s love, the strength of His hands, the faithfulness of His character, and the truth of His words.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
He is with you, and He is all you need.
Blessings!
