God plans to lead us step by step through adversity.
I consider myself to be a person of average intelligence. Yet, when troubles seem to pile up against me, I find that in my state of overwhelm, I am reduced to following one-step directions. I lose sight of the path before me. I struggle to keep myself from being distracted by all the details that are surrounding me, and can take my eyes off of my Father.
When I am in this state of mind, I am set up for temptation, for failure, and well – just plain old bad decision making! I think we all are.
If I were to equate those times to blindness would this make sense to you? For me, it definitely feels that way. There is a sort of stumbling around that takes place in the dark. Sure, we put out our hands and extend our arms so that we won’t run into anything. We try and shuffle our feet along so that we won’t lose our balance or stub our toes. But if we are honest, we have lost our focus – our light.
God illuminates our path.
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
God illuminates for us that which we can no longer see; a path clearly laid out for us created by the Creator. Unfortunately, we can often times miss it. We forget that wherever God is there is ALWAYS light. He will never leave us alone. We forget that in order to see the light, we need to have our eyes open! And not only open, but focused on Him, the very source of our light!
Luke 1:78-79 “Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.”
I love that God planned in the birth of Jesus, out of His great mercy for us – an undeserving people – He provided us an eternal light to break our darkness! He gave us a Savior to guide us!
Today and all that it holds has already been revealed to God. There is nothing in it that will surprise Him. There is nothing that will distract Him. There is no evil or crisis that will darken His light. Since this is truth, we would do well to keep our eyes on the One who will lovingly take us by the hand and escort us step by step through this day. My experience is that God will most likely only allow us to see one step at a time. But one step at a time is enough.
Psalm 143:8 “Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk for I give myself to You.”
May the words of this Psalm become our words today and everyday.
Blessings!
Thank you so much. I have been feeling this way and needed a word to guide me and to just let go. These last three weeks have been so hard. I need to let God be in control of all that is going on. I need to step back and praise Him and thank Him and relax in His love and leave the tears behind.
Thank you Jesus.
