Seeing God Everywhere

I’ve got to admit, today as I return to work, having spent the last week away in the warmth and beauty that is Mexico, I wonder if I will see God in the same way. It may sound strange – and perhaps not – but God is easy for me to see when my pace slows down and I am surrounded by the beauty of creation.

Besides the time with friends, where I am not “mom,” but am “Michelle,” I think this particular vacation speaks to me and fills my soul in ways that vacations may not for others. I am situated on a cliff overlooking the beach. I can see and even hear the waves pounding against the sand. Whales spout and play with their young as I sit and watch from the sidelines. The sun is shining. Palm trees and brightly colored flowers accent the desert sand and cacti. I love the sounds of the birds chirping and singing to one another. I marvel at the sun rising over the hill and painting the sky, and I look forward to watching the last little sliver fade into the ocean as it sets.

I cannot help but think about the God of Creation. Each piece of this experience hand crafted and superbly designed. Perfection.

“The LORD made the earth by His power, and He preserves it by His wisdom. With His own understanding He stretched out the heavens. When He speaks in the thunder, the heavens roar with rain. He causes the clouds to rise over the earth. He sends the lighting with the rain and releases the wind from His storehouses!” (Jeremiah 51:15-16) God is so much bigger, so much stronger, so much wiser than we can even comprehend or imagine. “He is the Creator of everything that exists, including His people, His own special possession. The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is His name!” (Jeremiah 51:19)

Today I have made the move from vacation paradise back to my home in what is currently cold, and foggy Oregon. I will return to my work, and the demands of day to day life. But God is with me. His creation and beauty still surround me. I need only to slow down, and be intentional about seeing that which is before me.

He is here. He is near. His beauty and goodness will be threaded throughout this day. God give me eyes to see it!

Blessings!
