When my feet are dragging… When the weight of life’s circumstances is more than I can bear… When I am overwhelmed with fear or hurt… I want nothing more than to be carried by my Father.
Can you remember your earthly father carrying you? I can. (Although it has been quite some time now!) Whether my father was carrying me to show affection for me, or whether he carried me to protect or comfort me – the effect was the same. I felt safe. I felt loved. I felt secure while I was in his hands.
I love my earthly father. He is truly a blessing in my life. A gift. And yet, he is human. He is imperfect. Although he does a good job staying connected to his children and their needs – he still misses things. My Father in Heaven does not.
My Heavenly Father sees the times when I need to be carried because my physical needs are great, and He carries me.
My Heavenly Father sees the times when I am overcome by emotional needs, and He carries me. Holding me close to His heart.
My Heavenly Father sees the times when I am in a spiritual drought, and He carries me to a place where I can be refreshed. Replenished.
My Heavenly Father is not just an emergency responder – He is so much more! While He saves us, removes us from danger and hurt, He also knows us and loves us with such great intimacy that His provision is customized specifically for us.
Friend, it’s ok for us to extend our arms out to the Father, just as a toddler would do, inviting – pleading even – for Him to pick us up and carry us. He will not turn such an invitation away. His arms never grow tired. His back can hold our weight.
“Praise the LORD; praise God our savior! For each day He carries us in His arms.” (Psalm 68:19)
Blessings!
