Personalizing God’s Word

I was in my early 20’s when the idea of looking at God’s word as a personalized word was presented to me. The idea was that so often when we actually do read through God’s word, we are quick to pass over the words or promises written because we assume that they are for someone else. We forget that God’s word is written for all of us. Male and female. Young and old.

I am reminded of this concept today as I read Psalm 91. The words of my Father in Heaven amaze me, when I make the Psalm personal to me. My hope as I write this is that it will be what not only I needed to hear today – but may remind someone else of God’s great love and affection for them.

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD; He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. For He will rescue me from every trap and protect me from deadly disease. He will cover me with His feathers. He will shelter me with His wings. His faithful promises are my armor and protection. I will not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. I will not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, these evils will not touch me. Just open my eyes, and I will see how the wicked are punished. If I make the LORD my refuge, if I make the Most High my shelter, no evil will conquer me; no plague will come near my home. For He will order His angels to protect me wherever I go. They will hold me up with their hands so I won’t even hurt my foot on a stone. I will trample upon lions and cobras; I will crush fierce lions and serpents under my feet! The LORD says, “I will rescue (Michelle) who loves me. I will protect (Michelle) who trusts in my name. When she calls on me, I will answer; I will be with her in trouble. I will rescue and honor her. I will reward her with a long life and give her my salvation.”

God’s promises are meant for me to not only read but apply. His promises still stand. His love and faithfulness extend to all generations.

Blessings!
