“Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of His special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love. Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean! You will show us your faithfulness and unfailing love as you promised to our ancestors Abraham and Jacob long ago.” -Micah 7:18-20
There is no other God. There is no other that has always been and always will be. There is no other God who is holy, and very being dictates what is good and what is evil. This God of Creation is the author of truth.
This same God loves us more than we can imagine. Sometimes I cannot help but wonder why. Why the deep love for us? Why the willingness to continue to give us multiple opportunities to try again when we sin against Him? All I can come up with is to fall back upon the character of who we know God to be: full of unfailing love, compassionate, faithful, a promise keeper, forgiving.
This week is holy week. Sunday we celebrated Jesus riding through the streets on the back of a donkey being proclaimed Messiah, but tomorrow is coming. Tomorrow we remember the events that set into motion Jesus moving to the cross. Jesus would meet with his followers for one last meal, and head to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray and await his arrest. That night a mockery of a trial would ensue and Jesus – the Son of God would find himself nailed to a cross on Friday. But thanks be to God! Death could not hold him. Friday was dark, to be sure, but Sunday was coming. Death was defeated and our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ rose from the grave. Death lost its power and sin lost its hold on us. One crucifixion and the mighty love of our Savior took care of that for us!
Such is the love of our God. Where is there another God like you? There isn’t!
“How deep the Father’s love for us, How vast beyond all measure, That He should give His only Son, To make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss – The Father turns His face away, As wounds which mar the Chosen One, Bring many sons to glory.
“Behold the man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders; Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice, Call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there, Until it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life – I know that it is finished.
“I will not boast in anything, No gifts, no power, no wisdom; But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer; But this I know with all my heart – His wounds have paid my ransom.” – Stuart Townsend
But THIS I know with all my heart – HIS wounds have paid MY ransom. Where is there another God like you?
Blessings!
