Living Life, Without Distractions

  • Post author:

I am not sure about you, but I can hardly make it through a day without at least once finding myself completely and utterly distracted. What distracts me, however, is not always the same. Sometimes it is a task that seems to come out of nowhere. Sometimes it is something that pops up on my phone. Other times, someone will have the tv show on and I get sucked into a program.

I am not really much of a fan of distractions. Perhaps the reason I don’t much care for them is that it really doesn’t take that much to distract me. For whatever reason, once I am distracted, it becomes way to easy for me to stop what I am doing – or what I should be doing – and I lose time. Sadly, time is the one thing that I seem to crave the most and at the same time seem to have the least of!

I have heard it said that “If your enemy can’t destroy you, he will distract you.”

Just reading that statement stirs something inside me. I was meant for more. More than distractions. More than complacency. More than mediocrity. I was designed for a purpose. I was made to fulfill a plan.

So were you.

Friend, we need to be careful that we do not lose sight of God’s plan and purpose for our lives because we get distracted. We need to keep our eyes, hearts, and minds fixed on what is important and not fall for the bait of what is not. Just because opportunities present themselves, does not mean that those opportunities are considered distractions by God. Let’s be real: Distractions often look good. Feel good. Seem good. If they didn’t, we wouldn’t be tempted by them. They would have no power over us, right?

I heard a sermon by Craig Groeschel that put it this way, “What we often call an opportunity, God calls a distraction.” To the best of our ability, the only way that we can really know one from the other is to know what God designed for us to do. We need to know our purpose. Additionally, we need to seek wisdom from God about opportunities that present themselves. When we ask, the scriptures tell us that we will receive. God loves it when we seek Him in our everyday lives. He loves it when our hearts are desiring to live in obedience to the point that we make sure we include Him in the process.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that God has specially chosen you and me to do a good work. Your gifts, experiences, talents, and resources are unique to you and your purpose – as are mine. We were designed for a purpose. With God’s leading, we can and will avoid distractions and achieve it.

Blessings!

I’m so glad you’re back! This was just what I needed!! The older I get the more distracted I become.
Thank you for this reminder. ❤
