What is it that we as believers in Christ should be speaking out against? What customs have our culture adopted that go against what God dictates? What areas of injustice has God opened your eyes to see and filled your heart with a passion to bring about change? What are you doing about it?
I am not going to lie, we live in a time – once again – where it feels unsafe to speak out in truth. Our culture’s voice of lies seems to be growing in volume, while the voice and commandments from our LORD seem to be more and more offensive.
Tolerance is what is touted – yet it is tolerance only for that which goes against God. We are to be tolerant and even embracing of other religious groups. We are to embrace choice – as if choices hold no consequences. While at the same time, we are encouraged to become offended by anything that comes from Christianity.
It would be foolish to try and figure out how God plans to put a stop to this defiance. God’s ways far exceed our comprehension. Yet I do believe that history repeats itself to some degree.
This morning I was reading the story of Queen Esther. Her husband King Xerxes was misled, as the world ruler of that time. He had been encouraged to kill off the Jewish people and had signed a decree allowing it to happen. In a culture where a Queen would never go before her King without the potential cost of her life, Esther takes that risk. Why?
Her cousin Mordecai had sent her a message saying: “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all the other Jews are killed. If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for such a time as this.” (Esther 4:13-14)
Friend, while we may not be in a place of royalty or in such a powerful position of leadership, we are called to be leaders and proclaimers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are called to represent Him. We are called to speak the truth. We are not given permission to change the truth into what we would have it to say. God’s word does not change. And furthermore, if we are not willing to stand for God’s word and defend it – make no mistake – someone will. We know how this ends – God wins.
If we keep quiet at a time like this deliverance and relief will come… but perhaps we were made for such a time as this. Take courage. Speak truth. Get into God’s word and follow it.
Blessings!
