Last night Hannah and I made our way to the grocery store. While it is a part of our weekly routine together, we typically don’t venture out on a weeknight. Most weeks, Saturday is our day, but last weekend was pretty full for us and my days were filled with other activities.
So on a Monday night, after work, Hannah’s bowling, and dinner, my girl and I set out to get our week’s supplies.
Shopping with Hannah is actually entertaining. She loves going and getting to pick out items. While I would have to bribe Grace to go, Hannah actually seems to enjoy the time and loves being a help to me.
When we entered the store, the sun was still shining on what had been another beautiful fall day. However, when we left, Hannah and I both noticed our great fortune. We walked through the doors to the parking lot and directly in front of us the sky was lit up in a beautiful sunset.
I love sunsets. In fact, more than that, I love the sky. I loved it yesterday morning when through the haze of fog, I could see the sun’s outline – bold and yet because of the fog’s shield, I could stare at it. Beautiful. At one point during my workday, I happened to look up into the sky and saw the amazing cloud formations contrasting with a blue that can rarely be seen elsewhere. Gorgeous. So for me to get to end the lighted part of my day with a colorful show in the sky was a real treat – no, a blessing.
All of this was brought back into my mind this morning as I was reading out of God’s word. I have been in the book of Job, which is a book of great loss. And yet in the midst of this book are some great words about who God is and the power that He holds.
“God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power.” (Job 37:5) “The clouds churn about at his direction. They do whatever he commands throughout the earth. He makes these things happen either to punish people or to show his unfailing love.” (v. 12-13) I love the idea that God was providing me with a show in the heavens all day long as a revelation of his unfailing love for me!
“Stop and consider the wonderful miracles of God! Do you know how God controls the storm and causes the lightning to flash from his clouds? Do you understand how he moves the clouds with wonderful perfection and skill?” (Job 37:14b-16)
Today, whatever show God chooses to provide us with – be it the blue sky and white clouds or the dark clouds holding rain, may we stop and consider this is only a tiny glimpse at the wonderful miracles that God reveals to us. Your Father is revealing his unfailing love for you.
Blessings!
