Thirsty For God

Have you ever found yourself thirsting for the Word of God? Where your body aches to be in His presence, and your mind craves more than anything for Him to speak into your life and situation?

I think in those times where life seems so overwhelming – when we know that what we need is so much more than what the help of mankind can offer us – it is then that we naturally thirst for God. We seek Him. We cry out to Him. We look for some hope – a sense of truth from His Word.

Certainly when we seek we find. God says He will be found by us when we seek Him.

But what about a thirst for God when things are not so overwhelming? Do we seek God with that same deep thirst? Are we craving intimacy with our Creator then?

I believe that God wants us to thirst for Him at all times. I think God’s plan from the beginning of time has always been that He would be in a close relationship with His children. In good times and bad times, God desires us to crave a relationship with Him.

Somehow it seems so natural when life is crazy, doesn’t it? So perhaps, many of us still have so much to learn about who God is. What He does. What He can do. Of His faithfulness. His power. His unconditional love.

I desire a deeper understanding of who God is. I want more than anything for my heart to expand in its love for my Heavenly Father. I want to remain in conversation with Him from the moment when I rise to the time when my mind shuts off at night. I want to quickly offer Him praise in the moments where I see His hand of goodness – from the beauty of his creation – to the moments of blessing through experiences I have every day. I want to immediately go to Him with each need as it arises instead of relying on my own strength and limited understanding to solve it.

I want to live for Him – while I live with Him.

LORD, may my life be lived with you as my constant companion. Make me aware of Your Presence. Lead me and guide me throughout every part of this day. May Your love overflow through me into the lives of those I encounter today. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for Your nearness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.” (Psalm 63:1-8)

Blessings!
