He Will Give Us Rest

This school year has been different than years past. Our school calendar has us working right up until the 21st of December. Between work commitments, dealing with crazy hyped up students, and all the preparations for Christmas I am exhausted. I am falling behind. And, if that weren’t enough to cause me stress – the bigger stressors lie within all the massive things which lie on my plate right now.

I have now entered into the window to pursue guardianship of my daughter. (She is almost 18! Where has time gone?) In addition, I am having to advocate for my daughter’s education and have been in this journey of advocacy since last March. Things are now at the point where we have called in an outside agency to help us navigate through the process.

Now if I layer on the other pieces of stress and well… “stuff” happening like kid concerts and performances, church events, and the demands that they represent/bring what is left is an exhausted, overwhelmed, me.

So in my present state of being, you can imagine the comfort of Jesus’ words to me this morning when I read: “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For the yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Yes! Please, LORD Jesus, take my burdens and carry them. Grant me rest from my weariness. Teach me how to regularly rest in You! My soul longs – cries out – for the rest that only You can provide!

Instead of allowing my circumstances and my list of “To Do’s” be my focus, I want to shift my thinking – shift my focus – to my Savior. My ever present help in times of trouble. He is near. His hands can easily carry my burdens. I need only release them to Him.

Blessings!
