Battle alone? Or with God?

I have no idea what kind of battle you may be fighting right now. In fact, I really don’t know if you are finding yourself in a time where you are being called to fight or if you are in a time of peace. What I do know, at least in my life, is that times of peace are far more rare than the times of battle.

I must fight against the temptations to sin daily.

I must fight against my schedule and selfish desires and make efforts to put my loved ones first.

I must fight against injustice, and be an advocate for my family.

I must fight against exhaustion.

I must fight to be a light in my workplace, and not spiral into a place of defeat and despair.

I must fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. I must fight for what is true, and good. I am called to fight, but not of my own strength. Not of my own leading. When I am called to fight by my Father in Heaven – when I am prompted to go to bat for Him, I can rest assured – even in the midst of the battle – that He has gone before me. He is the One who is fighting. I may be there in the thick of it – but I am not there of my own accord or left to fight on my own.

What battle are you called to fight? What battle(s) might you be up against now? Did God call you to it? Did God allow it to happen to you? If so: take heart. God goes before you. He fights for you. With you. Around you. You may feel as if you are surrounded by the enemy – but God surrounds you, too. And no enemy can stand against the King of Kings. No enemy. So while we don’t always feel it in while we are fighting, the victory has already been determined. God wins.

As we face a battle, may our hearts cry out to the LORD like David’s did: “O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe. You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. Pull me from the trap my enemy set for me, for I find protection in you alone. I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.” (Psalm 31:1-5) We invite God to fight for us. We allow Him to lead.

We have reason to rejoice even in the midst of our battle. His presence gives us reason to give thanks. “I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.” (Psalm 31:7) “But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands.” (v. 16)

God sees our troubles. He leads us into battles, but He fights for us and with us. God can be trusted, because He sees and knows all things. God’s love for us is so great that He hears our cry and is quick to protect us and lead us out of danger.

Friend, there is no one in all of creation who is better to tie yourself to. Not only does He adore you, He fights for you.

Blessings!
